Tottenham’s American Players Ranked

In the history of the Premier League, Spurs have had representation from across the globe. From New Zealand to Togo, Tottenham has had a diverse range of nationalities. Today, we celebrate our American players.

5. Cameron Carter-Vickers

Essex-born, the Tottenham Academy graduate plays for the USA national team due to his dad’s American citizenship.

Carter-Vickers spent most of his Spurs career out on loan and, despite a lot of promise, he never made a Premier League appearance for the club in six years.

He has gone on to have a successful career north of the border at Celtic.

4. DeAndre Yedlin

After impressing in the 2014 World Cup, Yedlin moved from Seattle Sounders but struggled to make an impact. He made a solitary appearance for Spurs.

Yedlin played for Sunderland and more notably Newcastle but now plies his trade back in the MLS. Until recently, Yedlin played alongside Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

3. Kasey Keller

The first of two ‘keepers on this list, Keller moved from Rayo Vallencano in 2001 and spent three years at the club. He was ever present for two seasons in which we finished 10th and 14th.

Once Paul Robinson joined in 2004, Keller found it tough to get playing time and left the club.

Partly due to Keller’s later comments around Tottenham a tricky team to play for, but mainly because of the mediocre footballing era Keller played for the club, his stint at White Hart Lane isn’t particularly memorable.

2. Clint Dempsey

Clint Dempsey on the other hand, left a lasting memory at the club despite only playing for one season. Moving from Fulham in 2012 and bizarrely wearing the number 2 shirt, Dempsey scored several important goals, including THAT goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Dempsey moved to Seattle Sounders in 2013 after scoring a respectable 12 goals during the campaign.

1. Brad Friedel

There is an alternate universe where Andre Villas Boas never signed Hugo Lloris, and Brad Friedel is still playing for Spurs at the age of 52.

The goalkeeper had already enjoyed a long career before moving to Tottenham in 2011, with spells at Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa. He even scored a goal for Blackburn.

During his career, he made a record 310 consecutive appearances in the Premier League, which only ended with the arrival of Lloris at Spurs.

Friedel holds the record as the oldest Spurs player, at 42 years old. He was always a safe pair of hands and was a fans’ favourite, having an affinity with the club. Indeed, after retiring from the game, he became an ambassador for the club.

He may have only made 50 Premier League appearances for Tottenham but he made a lasting impact on the club.
